Traders, risk managers, analysts, and industry leaders depend upon Platts to help them make better trading and investment decisions. We currently have a full-time vacancy for a senior editor on our Central Editing Desk in London, an exciting position, on the cutting edge of the news flow of the worlds leading source of energy news. The successful applicant will be responsible, along with other team members, primarily for ensuring the quality and timeliness of our real-time news wire output in the EMEA region across worldwide service lines. The position will also involve some managerial and administrative responsibilities so proven ability in this area is also welcome.

Responsibilities
The successful candidate should have the ability not only to process copy but to work with reporters in a positive and constructive manner with a tremendous amount of strength and patience. The team will constantly have to assess and prioritize incoming copy, agree how to split the workload, and carry out their editing tasks as quickly and efficiently as possible, all without losing sight of the need to ensure the high quality of the finished stories. You will be required to learn Platts real-time news products and their target audience extremely well, engage with the reporters in London and around the world and become expertly acquainted with out internal IT systems and written house style.
Qualifications:

  • The ability to edit copy, at speed and under pressure. 
  • Experience running or deputising on a busy desk would be very welcome. 
  • While experience in a news wire or similar environment is very desirable, a busy newspaper office could be equally valuable grounding. 
  • Processing, and making readable, copy from a wide variety of writing skill levels and cultures 
  • Engaging with reporters and freelances, providing feedback about submitted copy. 
  • Deciding how to handle incoming copy and ensure everything transmitted to our subscribers is accurate and error-free. 
  • Working knowledge of energy and commodities markets and industries highly advantageous 
  • Alerting reporters to breaking news and assigning stories on occasion 
  • Dealing with a range of complex subject matter  
  • Making clear decisions quickly 
  • Working in a team with colleagues across the globe, under great time pressure. 
  • The London desk edits between 8:00am - 5:00pm approx. with occasional late finishes between 7:30pm-8:00pm. Early starts and late finishes organised according to rota.
