Staffordshire University is on a journey to become the foremost modern higher education institution in the UK, with an international reputation for excellence, and we are looking for inspirational and effective people to take us to the next stage.
Staffordshire University is an innovative, connected university which supports students and the wider community to compete and thrive in the modern world. After a highly successful year in 2019, which included entering THE World University rankings for the first time, securing TEF Gold, and climbing in all the league tables, the University has already exceeded goals set previously and is now considering its 2030 strategy.
Many of our students come from areas with low rates of participation in higher education and we continually strive to ensure the courses we offer meet the needs of people and employers. We are expanding our non-traditional, flexible study options, particularly in apprenticeships serving the public sector.
You can join us at a time when we begin the next step of our transformation journey. The new £40m Catalyst Building will deliver 6,500 new apprentices in the next decade, boosting both the local and national economy. The development of our offer to new academic areas and geographic locations will see us expand our reach and make an innovative offer to a new generation of students.
We are a university of and for our community: local, national and global. If you share our values and have the skills to deliver our vision, we want to hear from you.
This is a great time to join the HR&OD team. The Service plays a pivotal role in creating a working environment for our staff which is supportive, stimulating, informative and is a great place to work. With over 1,600 employees across the organisation, Human Resources and Organisational Development helps support the whole employee lifecycle from recruitment, pay and reward, employee relations and learning and development.
As HR Advisor (Apprentice), you’ll be exposed to a wide range of opportunities to help you develop your HR generalist experience whilst at the same time providing an opportunity for you to make a real impact. During your time with us, you’ll be supported to combine on-the-job training with formal, nationally recognised development through completion of the Level 5 CIPD Intermediate Diploma in Human Resource Management delivered by the Staffordshire Business School. We’ll also provide you with a development plan to support you in progressing your career.
The HR Advisor (Apprentice), will be involved in providing support and advice on a broad range of HR and recruitment activities throughout the employee lifecycle which includes recruitment, contractual queries, flexible working, HR policies and procedures, along with guiding and advising on our sickness absence management process. As part of a small team, in this "hands on" role you’ll quickly become the first point of contact for stakeholders seeking advice and guidance on a range of employment issues. Working alongside the HR administration and recruitment team, you’ll also support the development of streamlined and digitally focussed processes throughout the employee lifecycle.
A proficient multi-tasker with the ability to manage a diverse workload, you will work effectively under pressure within a very busy environment. You will be capable of using your initiative to resolve queries but will know when to seek advice and will work effectively in a team to support colleagues. You’ll be an effective communicator who is able to guide and influence managers, providing effective and pragmatic advice and solutions. We need someone who is a team player but who is also capable of working independently. You must be able to build and maintain good working relationships with a range of stakeholders from across our academic and professional services areas. The successful candidate will have previous experience of working in an office, preferably within a Human Resources Environment. Our only other pre-requisite is that you must be ready and available to start work by 18 December 2020 at the very latest and undertake the Level 5 CIPD Intermediate Diploma in Human Resource Management from January 2020 so time is short - apply now for immediate consideration.
Please complete the online application form and upload your CV together with a covering letter setting out why we should consider you for our new HR Advisor (Apprentice), taking into account the demands of the programme and the requirements of the role – how do you meet our criteria and what is it that sets you apart?
In return for your dedication we have a competitive benefits package available:
Competitive incremental rates of Pay
Starting from 29 days Annual Leave (depending on job grade) plus 11 days Bank Holiday and Discretionary days
Excellent Pension Scheme
Access to continued professional and personal development
An opportunity to become part of the wider University community
